Gum Disease Edelweiss Dental Implant Center TX 75019-2733While we are young, we need to do everything we can do to keep our teeth healthy because, when we get older we may not have our teeth, but it's always important to keep your teeth healthy at any age.

In this article, we will be talking about how to lower the risk of getting gum disease as we get older.

Steps on How to Lower the Risk of Gum Disease

•  Eat Healthy- eating healthy foods is a great way to decrease the risk of getting gum disease. It also lowers the chance for diabetes to occur.
•  Brush and floss your teeth. Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day is the ultimate cure for getting gum disease. Removing all the plaque and bacteria from your teeth and gums by brushing and flossing everyday will make your teeth happy and you could get to keep them for the rest of your life.
•  Eat less sugary foods. By eating less sugary foods this will help decrease the chances of getting gum disease. Sugar sticks to your teeth and will cause plaque buildup and cavities, and also tooth decay.
•  Don't use tobacco. Smoking and chewing tobacco increases the risk of gum disease, and your risk for getting oral cancer. So, if you do use it try to cut back on it.
•  Use fluoride toothpaste. When you brush your teeth, make sure you take at least 2-3 minutes brushing them, getting all the hard to reach places and making sure you brush the chewing surfaces. Using fluoride will help protect your teeth by slowing down the enamel breakdown.
•  Limit your alcohol usage. Drinking alcohol will increase your chances of getting gum disease, having tooth decay, and is a risk factor for getting oral cancer.

These are just several ways to decrease the risk of getting gum disease there is so much more that you can do to prevent it.
